Yesterday, I was privileged to take part in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new 6 Lane Bridge over I-35 at the Stockton Loop. Many times during the presentation, people mentioned the growth that is occurring in Jarrell. This was reinforced later in the day at the Jarrell Chamber of Commerce meeting. It is amazing to look back at the amount of growth that has occurred in Jarrell over the last three years that I have been here. As I came back to my office yesterday afternoon, I was really reflecting on this.
Then I turned my attention to JISD and the growth we have experienced. In May of 2005, we ended the school year with 664 students. We ended the 2011-2012 school year with 994 students. As of last Friday, we had 1305 students enrolled in JISD. If we have nobody else moving into the district by the end of school, when we open the doors next year, we will have 1341. Our best guess puts our enrollment when we open the doors on August 25th around 1420 students.
How do we guess this...it is a guess based on current construction rates (as I type this there are at least 99 homes under construction in our two largest subdivision) as well as student yield per home.
We have also grown in terms of campuses - we added the Intermediate School, we have built the new JMS, we are currently adding onto high school, and soon we will begin construction on the stadium additions and upgrades...
I say this not to alarm people, but to let them know that we work diligently to stay ahead of the information coming to us. We are blessed with a growing community - it is our duty and responsibility to handle it effectively and efficiently!
